Cost guide
How much does curtain cleaning cost?
Curtain cleaning costs £20 to £45 a pair on the pole and £40 to £90 a pair taken down, dry cleaned and rehung. Roman blinds run £30 to £60 each and vertical blinds £6 to £12 a louvre set.
Typical prices
Ranges, not quotes. A quote depends on how many pairs there are and whether they come down.
| Work | Typical UK price |
|---|---|
| Standard pair, cleaned on the pole | £20 to £45 |
| Full-length interlined pair, on the pole | £40 to £70 |
| Pair taken down, dry cleaned, rehung | £40 to £90 |
| Voiles or nets, per pair | £12 to £25 |
| Roman blind, each | £30 to £60 |
| Vertical blind, per window | £25 to £45 |
Do the whole room in one visit rather than the worst pair. The setup, the journey and the minimum charge are most of the cost of a single pair, and a room done together also avoids the result everybody regrets, which is one bright curtain hanging next to three that were not done.
What moves the price
- On the pole or taken down, which is the largest single difference.
- Size and weight. Full-length interlined curtains are several times the work of a short unlined pair.
- Lining, and whether there is an interlining between it and the face fabric.
- How many pairs, since the setup is shared across a house.
- Fabric. Silk, velvet and wool need testing before anything is applied.
- Whether rehanging is included, which on heavy curtains needs two people.
Questions about curtain cleaning
Can they get smoke out?
Sometimes. Light smoke odour lifts; years of it in an interlining generally does not, and any company promising otherwise on an old pair is guessing.
What about blinds?
Romans and verticals can be cleaned in place, and verticals can usually be taken down as individual louvres. Rollers are the awkward one, because the fabric is often bonded and stiffened, and a wet clean can leave it wavy.
