Services
Cleaning services
The jobs cleaning companies are hired for across the UK, each with what the work involves, what it typically costs, and what to ask before you book.
In the home
Work inside an occupied house or flat, either on a repeating visit or as a one-off before a move or an inspection. Priced by the hour for regular work and by the job for everything else.
Domestic cleaning
Weekly or fortnightly cleaning of an occupied home, kitchens: worktops, hob, sink, front of units and the floor
End of tenancy
Inside the oven, including the door glass, shelves and trays, inside the fridge, freezer and every cupboard and drawer
Deep cleaning
Inside the oven, the fridge and every cupboard and drawer, limescale off shower screens, taps, tiles and the wc
Oven cleaning
Single and double ovens, including the door glass, shelves, trays and racks taken out and soaked in a heated tank
Carpet cleaning
Hot water extraction of carpets in an occupied house, low moisture cleaning where the room is needed again the same day
Upholstery cleaning
Fabric sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and headboards, leather cleaning and feeding, which is a different process entirely
Rug cleaning
Wool, silk, cotton and synthetic rugs, hand-knotted oriental and persian rugs, cleaned at a plant rather than in the house
Mattress cleaning
Single, double, king and superking mattresses, stain treatment, and urine treatment which reaches the foam
Curtain cleaning
Curtains cleaned on the pole, without taking them down, take-down, dry clean and rehang as one service
Housekeeping
Regular housekeeping in an occupied home, beyond a cleaning round, laundry, ironing and changing beds as a standing part of the visit
Ironing service
Ironing by the bag, by the hour or by the item, collection and delivery, usually on a fixed weekly day
Outside the building
Glass, stone, render and roofs. Nearly all of it is sold on a round rather than as a single visit, because the round is what makes the price work.
Window cleaning
Regular exterior window cleaning on a four or six weekly round, water fed pole work on upper floors, with no ladder needed
Gutter cleaning
Clearing gutters, hoppers and downpipes of moss, leaves and silt, vacuum clearing from the ground, with a camera to show the result
Jet washing
Driveways, paths and patios in block paving, concrete or stone, render, brickwork and cladding, using soft washing rather than pressure
Driveway cleaning
Block paving, concrete, tarmac, resin and gravel edges, oil and tyre mark removal, which is separate work from the wash
Patio cleaning
Patios in stone, concrete slab, porcelain or block paving, algae and black spot lichen, which need chemical treatment rather than pressure
Roof cleaning
Moss removal by hand scraping, which is the method that does not damage tiles, soft washing with a biocide to kill the regrowth
Render cleaning
Softwashing silicone, K Rend and monocouche render, red and green algae, lichen and the black staining under sills
Conservatory cleaning
Roof panels washed from a pole, glass or polycarbonate, glazing bars and the algae that collects in them
Solar panel cleaning
Panels washed with deionised water from a water-fed pole, bird fouling and lichen along the bottom edge of each panel
Bin cleaning
Wheelie bins cleaned on the kerbside on collection day, recycling and food waste caddies
Specialist work
One-off jobs with their own equipment, their own method and, in a few cases, their own licensing. Quoted after somebody has seen the property.
After builders
The rough clean: removing dust, debris, stickers and protective film, the sparkle clean: the finished detail once the trades have gone
Holiday let cleaning
Changeover cleans between guests, to a fixed time window, bed linen and towels stripped, laundered and made up
Hard floor cleaning
Stripping and resealing vinyl and safety flooring, deep cleaning and buffing wood, laminate and engineered boards
Stone and tile cleaning
Limestone, travertine, marble and slate floors deep cleaned, grout lines cleaned and, where wanted, recoloured
Hoarder cleaning
Sorting and clearing a property room by room, with the occupant, separating what is kept, what is donated and what is disposed of
Biohazard cleaning
Trauma and unattended death scenes made safe and cleaned, blood and body fluid decontamination
Graffiti removal
Graffiti removed from brick, render, stone, metal and glass, poultice removal on porous stone, which is slow and does not damage it
Chimney sweeping
Open fires, wood burners and multi-fuel stoves, power sweeping and traditional brush and rod sweeping
Mould removal
Cleaning surface mould from silicone, grout, walls and ceilings, treating the affected area rather than painting over it
Void property cleaning
Empty properties cleaned between tenancies, clearance of anything the outgoing tenant left
On business premises
Contracts rather than arrangements: a written specification, work outside opening hours, employed and supervised staff, and a price per visit.
Office cleaning
Daily or several-times-weekly cleaning outside working hours, desks, meeting rooms, kitchens and washrooms
Commercial cleaning
Contract cleaning for offices, shops, surgeries and industrial units, daily, several-times-weekly or weekly schedules outside opening hours
Communal cleaning

School cleaning
Classrooms, halls and corridors cleaned after the school day, toilets and washrooms, checked during the day as well
Gym cleaning
Equipment, handles and touch points sanitised daily, rubber and vinyl gym flooring cleaned without degrading it
Hospitality cleaning
Front of house cleaned before doors open, bar tops, drip trays, glass washers and the floor behind the bar
Kitchen extract cleaning
Canopies, filters and plenums cleaned to bare metal, ductwork cleaned through access panels along its full run
Industrial cleaning
Factory, warehouse and production floors, cleaned outside running hours, ride-on and walk-behind scrubber drying of large hard floors
Medical cleaning
GP surgeries, dental practices and private clinics, treatment rooms cleaned to an infection prevention specification
Retail cleaning
Shop floors cleaned before opening, entrance glass, frontage and door furniture
High level cleaning
Atrium and stairwell glazing reached from a platform, ceiling voids, ductwork exteriors and pipe runs in warehouses
