Cost guide
How much does driveway cleaning cost?
Driveway cleaning costs £180 to £400 for a typical semi-detached property and £350 to £700 for a large one, or £2 to £5 a square metre. Re-sanding block paving is usually included and sealing is £8 to £15 a square metre on top.
Typical prices
Ranges, not quotes. A quote depends on the area and the surface it is laid in.
| Work | Typical UK price |
|---|---|
| Small driveway, one car | £150 to £250 |
| Typical semi-detached driveway | £180 to £400 |
| Large or double driveway | £350 to £700 |
| Oil stain treatment | £40 to £120 |
| Re-sanding block paving | usually included |
| Sealing, per square metre | £8 to £15 |
Ask for the square metres on the quote. Driveways are priced by area in the trade and quoted flat to the customer, and two quotes two hundred pounds apart are usually two different measurements rather than two different standards.
What moves the price
- Area, which is what the price is really built from.
- Surface. Block paving needs re-sanding, tarmac needs chemical cleaning, resin needs low pressure.
- Oil and tyre marks, which are a degreaser and dwell time rather than part of the wash.
- Weeds and moss in the joints, and whether a residual treatment is applied afterwards.
- Water and power. A firm with its own tank and generator can work anywhere.
- Sealing, which roughly doubles the visit and commits you to resealing.

Questions about driveway cleaning
Will oil stains come out?
Fresh oil usually. Old oil that has soaked into concrete often does not come out completely, and any firm that promises otherwise has not seen it.
How often does a driveway need cleaning?
Every two to three years for most, annually where it is shaded or under trees. Sealing roughly doubles the interval.
