How much does industrial cleaning cost?
Industrial cleaning costs £18 to £30 an hour, £0.30 to £0.90 a square metre for hard floor machine cleaning, and £1,200 to £4,000 a day for a shutdown team with equipment. High level work adds the cost of access, which is often a scissor lift at £150 to £400 a day.

Scope the shutdown with the contractor on site rather than over the phone. The cleaning is rarely the expensive part of a shutdown; the expensive part is the day of production lost when the window was scoped by somebody who had not seen the racking.
What moves the price
- Access. Working at height, in a confined space, or around live plant changes the job before the area does.
- Whether it is a shutdown against a fixed window, which is priced as a project rather than a rate.
- Floor type and area, and whether it needs machine scrubbing or stripping and resealing.
- Equipment. Scrubber dryers, industrial vacuums and lifts are either owned or hired, and hire shows in the price.
- Dust type. Some production dust is hazardous and needs different extraction and disposal.
- Hours. Overnight and weekend working is standard here and carries a premium.

What about the machinery?
Cleaning around plant needs isolation agreed with your engineers first. A contractor who does not raise that before starting has not done this before.
Do we need to stop production?
For floors and general areas usually not, if it is worked around shifts. For high level work over a production line, yes, and that is what a shutdown window is for.
