How much does rug cleaning cost?
Rug cleaning costs £45 to £150 for an ordinary rug, £150 to £600 for a hand-knotted oriental one and £20 to £45 a square metre at a plant. Collection and delivery is usually free above a minimum order and £15 to £40 below it.

Send two rugs rather than one. Collection, handling and the minimum order are most of the cost of a small job, and the second rug is always considerably cheaper than the first.
What moves the price
- Size, and most plants price by the square metre.
- Construction. Hand-knotted is slower and more careful work than machine-made.
- Fibre. Silk needs specialist handling; wool needs care with alkalinity; synthetics are straightforward.
- Whether the dyes are stable, which the test decides before anything else happens.
- Pet odour, which needs full immersion rather than a surface treatment.
- Repairs to fringes, binding or moth damage, which are priced separately.

Questions about rug cleaning
Will the colours run?
That is what the dye test is for, and it is done before the rug gets wet. Rugs that fail the test are cleaned by a different, drier method or declined.
Can moth damage be repaired?
Small areas can be rewoven, which is a specialist repair priced separately. Treating the rug stops the damage spreading, which is the more urgent job.
